Pool hall within the leather complex
1254 resides in the same building as Ramrod and Machine and offers a pool hall and cafe for anyone wanting to take a time out from the dance club.

If you asked someone standing in Cafe 1254 where Cafe 1254 is, they would have no idea. Essentially, there is no Cafe 1254. What you will find is two clubs, one upstairs, another downstairs. In the summer, when they have tables outside and serve food, THAT would possibly be "Cafe 1254".
Upstairs is the Ramrod. This used to be the scary, dark, leather bar. In the back room, a few nights a week, some say it still is, and all manner of doings take place. But, since laws removed cigarettes and multiple flat screens went in, it's really just a sports bar, most of the time.
Downstairs is MACHINE. At the bottom of the stairs is a pool room, perhaps 6 pool tables, more screens, some nights a DJ, some nights karaoke, some nights, even a piano player. Then, through a separate door is the dance club, which often involves a cover charge. The dance floor is excellent, with a fair share of top DJ's. At other times, the hysterical Ryan Landry has his theatrical events, usually spoofs of famous movies with a cast that combines drag queens with polished actors. These are excellent, very funny, very clever shows.
For casual pool playing, a respectable dance club, a sports bar, or a cruisy back room, the complex offers a lot under one roof.

I must agree with the majority of the reviewers. When I first moved to New England I couldn't wait to go to the legendary Ramrod - and I was not disappointed. VERY hot, erotically fascinating Leathermen abounded and the backroom area was, indeed, something to experience. In the past few years the focus of the bar has changed and alienated the very patrons that helped to make it such a success in its "Golden Years" A great pity and a major betrayal by the owners/managers

I like Ramrod's, however, it has changed much and frequently over the last few years. It was awesome when the leather area was enforced, so cool. I think it's true like the other reviewer said-they try to appeal to all slices of gay life. But Ramrod's is known for tough leather dudes, not everyone & anyone. So, I wish it was like it used to be. But now it is hangin on to the name that made Ramrod's what it is-leather, pure masculine sexulity and the grittiness it is losing. Now many basic losers hang there that don't belong. It's a shame. I want to hang with the leather dudes who are real men.

I went to the Ramrod over Thanksgiving weekend. I was prepared to be disappointed, but I had a great time. There were lots of leather guys in the back room getting frisky. It reminded me of the good ol' days. It's true that the disco down stairs has impacted the club, but no one upstairs minded that night.
