Club Café has one thing going for it: lots of cute, young guys. Unfortunately, it has a lot of negatives: Those same cute guys would watch you choke on a martini olive rather than help give a helping hand. It's primarily a South End crowd and believe me they are in their own antiseptic world. It's obvious most are there to 'meet' someone, but no one says Hi out of an unfounded fear of rejection. The majority are there with friends, and branching out of that circle (clique) rarely happens. The drinks are good, the music can be great, but the attitude is so pervasive it's almost sad. Life is hard enough and we'd all do well to remember that.

Club Cafe, its the Boston Gay Standard. At its best and worst, Thirsty Thursdays which is so crowded, you wish you stayed home. If you stay and punk it out, most end up horse from conversation screaming. The DJ & Music videos are fun & whimsy. Go for the eye candy. One unspoken rule to remember: Dykes in the front rooms, guys in the back. I do not know why.

Club Café has been fairly characterized by the other reviews here. Drink prices trend higher than most of the other gay bars listed here, but are on par with big city, posh nightspots that attract the deep pockets of the Euro crowd, in Boston's Theater District. Food seems to go in waves from very good to disappointing. Sunday brunches are a good bet. There's almost no way to guess how good the food will or won't be, at any time in history. But, in fairness, it's a very nice setting for a gay dinner date. Moving from the restaurant area, which sometimes has piano/vocal entertainment, there is the front bar, with a seating area. There are appetizer specials during happy hour, and sometimes even free apps. The next room has another bar and some flat screens. It opens into the back room, with more video screens, and a stage that makes it a popular spot for cabaret acts, fundraisers, and special events. Their idea of being able to text the DJ a message that plays on the screens throughout the room, which is also used for "dating" games is fun. Various VJ's (video jockey's) spin. The classic joke (which has your choice of punchlines) is "Club Café is Boston's S&M bar... Sneakers and Mascara. (Optional: Stand and Model.) Clientele trends towards well-dressed in gay-popular labels. Men over 35 need to be very fit, or they stick out in the crowd of Armani Exchange twinks. All that said, the club is well done, bar staff knows how to make drinks, and for boy watching, it's gay Boston's choice.

My friends and I have not liked this place since it opened and we were in our twenties. It IS a well laid out space. Skip the restaurant, but if you are hungry get a appetizer in the lounge area. The other rooms out back are ok with decent music...but yes a very young and not very diverse crowd. If you are very young and white and preppy...this might be your spot. I prefer something with a bit more of an edge.

It was my first trip to Boston and I was told by many of the locals that Club Cafe is a must stop. We dined first, which was mediocore. Our waitress was wonderful. She really made us feel like we were at home. After dinner we headed to the back of the club where it was pretty busy. There were probably only 5 people dancing which was a bummer. But overall I liked the diversity of the place. Great to see both lesbians and gay men together in one establishment.

All of the reviews whining about the attitude here are from older guys like myself, except they don't "get it" and I do. The fact that you're over 35 doesn't mean you have to be unfashionable, out of shape, boorish, or lecherous. I hit this place maybe once a month, and I find the bar staff to be efficient and cordial enough, the drinks to be fine, and the crowd to be decent. Nobody has ever been rude to me, but I'm not there to get laid or drunkenly flirt with some kid who's 20 years younger than I am. I'm there to enjoy drinks and conversation with my friends, then move on.

The drinks are very strong and tasty. It's really a good place to go with friends and not by yourself. Lots of attitude as this place can be a "S&M" (stand & model) bar.

CLUB ATTITUDE

This place REEEEEEEEEEEEKS of attitude ~ Decidely clicky atmosphere there so, if your an out of towner (or a person of color), DONT expect to get lucky. The food is great and the waitstaff is friendly ( But those stuck up south end Gym bunnies bring the rating down to 2 )

This place has moods....many worse than others. The bartenders at the front bar are so cranky and self absorbed that only an enema can cleanse this place of its terrible service. I enjoy the environment but the people there, good lord, what happened? The cool laid back smart set are rare and the over-cologned prada knockoffs are thick. Go during happy hour time, its more quaint.......avoid the twinky hours.....even if you are one. Sorry CC, you dont cut it any more. Boston demands a new venue.

just 'ok'...but that's on a weekday

Went on a wed eve. The food was fine, but a bit overpriced, but after the reviews, I was suprised by the very mixed crowd. Men and women, teens to 60+. Didn't really get going until 10.30..by which time I was ready to leave. Happy to try again on another night.

ATTITUDE CITY

This is the Best of the worst when it comes to attitude. The last time I went, it took me 10 minutes to get to the back room. After saying excuse me 100 times nobody listens. Then after saying Fuckin' move, people turn around and say that I have a problem? This is a dive. The drinks are expensive and weak. I will never ever set foot in this attitude palace ever again!

Ah Club So Gay. Its every gay cliche under one roof. Over priced, pompous and full of people who pretend to be wealthy. About 5% of the people in here can afford to live in the neighborhood. The other 95% are pretentious queens living on Credit Card Debt, buying fancy clothes at nearby Neiman Marcus to wear on the weekend and returning the goods on Monday for a refund. Its good for a laugh though. Especially when a bear walks in. You can almost hear the needle scratch across the record and the crowd just gasps in horror.

I use to go to this club all the time when I lived in Boston in the late 80s and early 90s and go back every time I visit since then. It use to be a great and elegant place to meet friends and listen to live piano bar or lounge music and have some great eats. It still is one of my favorite places to hang out with friends for dinner and drinks and handsome guy watching, but I miss the old charm of the pianists and cabaret singers that I haven't seen there in a few years; though I may have been there on the wrong nights. :)
