A Hunger Artist: Avant-garde dance theater performance based on Franz Kafka short story "A Hunger Artist".

A Hunger Artist is an experimental dance theater performance that follows the journey of a fasting artist who lives for, but simultaneously resents his audience. A combination of avant garde and Vaudeville slapstick, the piece relates the hyper self-critical journey of the young, striving artist. Inspired by Franz Kafka's "A Hunger Artist", composer Simona Minns and choreographer Victoria Sagardia take us on a rollercoaster of grotesque images versus pure emotion. The cast of six dancers represents the different faces of the artist, the society, and the conflict between them. The cast features dancers Hannah McEachern, Kiara Burns, Ruta Pauliukaitye, Yue Ru Ma, Jamichael Frazier, and Victoria Sagardia, and vocals from Simona, who also does choreography in some segments of the piece. This is a heavily instrumental piece, which features Rinat Tregerman on the piano, Kaeli Earle on the upright bass, and Vlade Guigni on the drums.
