NOT the Eagle you think.

If your looking for the Eagle of leather/levi fame this isnt it...but it is a neighborhood cruisey bar with great memoribelia of Eagles past! The drinks are cheap, strong and go down easy! The owner/bartender Jack is sassy, brash and takes no prisoner...but he is a character! Bruce the other bartender is the anti-Jack...sweet, easy going and also makes a strong pour. Friday and Saturday nights is very busy after 11pm....rest of week is quiet, with exceptions of locals and random flight crews! Has pool table, some video games and is a good later night stop on way to somewhere else or to await what will come as over flow from other bars. Overflow.....bad side: the bathrooms absolutely are wretched smelling.

Not a fan

This bar only gets busy after 1:00am when many guys head to the Eagle for one last drink before closing at 2:00am. This bar is also often referred to as the "dirty bird" for both the general state of disrepair / lack of cleaning and the fact that many head there for their last chance to hook up for the night.

Good Leather Bar!

Don't wear your sports coat or cashmere sweater here, but wear either your leather or levis. This IS a leather BAR ! Only crowded late in the evening and it is what a leather bar is all about. If your not into leather, go to another bar in Boston.

I personally refuse to spend money in this place. 1 bartender is so rude and nasty its horrifying to watch how he treats customers. Its also very dirty. What every you do, do NOT go into the bathroom. One would think with all the "last call" business that this place does they could clean and redo they bathroom. This is a great place for a last minute hookup. Nuf said.

Tremont Street's Neighborhood Gay Bar

The Eagle has remained, while the rest of the neighborhood has changed around it. Across from the Boston Center for the Arts, and upscale restaurants such as Sibling Rivalry and Hamersley's Bistro, the Eagle still serves cheap drinks in a relaxed setting. It's a neighborhood bar, and you'd be hard pressed to think of it as a leather or denim bar. If you conjure the Eagle in Amsterdam or other cities, this is certainly not their hard core brother. Mostly, it is a place for local tipplers, much easier to spend time in without burning eyes, now that smoking is outlawed. There's a pool table in the back, with the men's room (with no door and no way to stop anyone playing pool from seeing your junk at the urinal) just beyond it. Service can be friendly or surly, depending on the proprietor's mood. But, come closing time, the Eagle transforms. You see, South End men either don't drive, or won't dare lose their overnight parking space to pull their car out, once they are home from work. So, many who went somewhere in town that live in the South End pop their nose in, to "pick up a carry-out to take home". When they close at 2, the "Sidewalk Sale" is something to behold. We tend to pop into the Eagle before theater events across the street, for quick, cheap drinks. Sometimes we even slug one back at intermission. It's not a place to plan an evening around, or a tourist must-see. But, for a neighborhood watering hole, it's nice to know there's a place in an otherwise pricey neighborhood that is there for you, when you hair isn't perfect, and you're in your run-to-the-supermarket clothes.
