A One-winged Bird
I always feel like 'm drinking in someones old garage. the clientele is on the younger side or at least they want to be. jack the owner/bartender can be a HOOT when he's taking his medication, or a bitter nasty old queen -- hopefully you get him on a good night I think he might have a heart of gold but its probably been buried behind the building for the past 50 years. do go you might find its unique Boston charm addictive (ask jack for a Jack-Me-Off or an Anna Nicole Smith, house speciality drinks)
what you see is what you get
before we travelled to Boston I checked out this site and read the reviews and thought I'd better aviod this bar. So we went to Fritz first and hated that bar so we went onto the Eagle and thought it a great bar and the barman very friendly in his sort of way. Had three stays in Boston whilst travelling around and every time we went back he remembered us and what we drank and even gave us a few drinks on the house. The toilets do need a really good clean as you have to hold your nose because of the smell. however I would recommend this bar and thought both the barman and clientel very warm and friendly
Neighborhood bar
I was compelled to write a review of the Eagle from someone who lives in the South End. It's your friendly neighborhood bar. More everyday then leather, but has a great afterwork crowd (5pm) and is always busy on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights (11pm on -- later the better!). It's a bar, bar. No dance floor (thank god!). One pool table, a few video games, and a meat rack (back against the mirrors, it's not a huge space and not your usual Eagle (that you might expect from other cities) but it's a great place to meet real guyz. And the place (and the staff) have seen it all. It's been there for 20+ years and maintains despite the gentrification all around it that would otherwise want it pushed out (valet parking anyone?). Check it out when you're in the city. And be sure to say hi to the owner/bartender...and ask for a few stories from yesteryear.
MY BEDROOM IS BIGGER
Than this dump and Jack the Bartender is a bitter rude old queen. Avoid this dump unless you are in a bitchy mood waiting to get laid. Humm no wonder why its in the South End.
Jack's Hole
The other reviewers are spot-on perfect in their description of that miserable owner, Jack. Miserable is being kind, actually. I've never seen such an overbearing, rude, and downright mean individual in the service industry. The patrons are old, grizzled, and generally unatractive. For the life of me, I can't imagine anyone going here to cruise unless you recently had a leg amputated, and this was, literally, your last and only hope of getting laid. The pool table, busy until closing (or until Jack decides to shut it down) is the only thing of small value here ... oh, and if you have to take a leak, your better off pissing in your beer glass than taking a chance in their "bathroom" ... it hasn't seen a cleaning since Madonna was a virgin.
