The All-Star student cast will be led under the direction of Professor Jetro Da Silva, a long time pianist, arranger, and friend of Whitney Houston.
Professor Jetro Da Silva first met Houston in 1999 while rehearsing with her band. On her last world tour, Da Silva played the keyboards and the acoustic guitar. “I saw her as spiritual, anointed, beautiful, talented, and blessed with a beautiful voice. To me, she was not just a singer. I dare to say that she was a trumpet to the world. Her mission on this planet was bigger than just have a unique voice,” said Da Silva.
Special guests will include Houston’s nephew Gary Michael Houston and Shalotte Gibson, a long time lead background singer and friend of Whitney Houston. Songs performed will include "I Have Nothing," "Didn't We Almost Have It All," "My Love Is Your Love," "All At Once," and "Step By Step," to name a few.
Prior to the tribute concert, there will be an intimate Whitney Houston Symposium, in room 1A at 1140 Boylston Street, Boston, MA, at 1:30 p.m. Special invited guests will share intimate moments and stories about Whitney Houston on the road, and offer insight into Houston’s rise within the music industry. Members of the community will also have an opportunity to share their stories with Houston's family and friends in attendance.
Da Silva is a professor of Ensembles at Berklee. In addition to working with Houston, has performed with Stevie Wonder, Celine Dion, Faith Hill, Gladys Knight, Mary Mary, Bonnie Raitt, and many more.
