BRING OUT YOUR CLOTHING BECAUSE IT'S TIME TO SWAP WITH THE COMMUNITY!
Join HGBC's New Leaders Institute Fall 2014 cohort in putting on their first event! We will be hosting a group discussion about the nuanced relationship between gender identity and gender expression/presentation by dismantling the binary construct through clothing.
Specifically we will be raising the following questions: What is the difference between gender identity and gender expression? How do clothes play into that? How is clothing an expression beyond gender? Are different stigmas about clothing based on who is wearing what? As queer people of color how does clothing play a role in our lives?
We will end the event with a clothing swap! So you can pick up a few new pieces to express yourself while helping someone find the one piece that they have been missing to perfectly compliment their gender presentation!
We ask that all clothing brought is in moderate condition and clean. For those of you who would like to donate some clothing to the swap but cannot make it to the event, feel free to drop off pre-washed clothing at HBGC’s office at 485 Columbus Ave during the week before. Please email rm.granderson@gmail.com to arrange a time to drop off the clothes.
The event will take place in the basement of the Union United Methodist Church at 485 Columbus Avenue. Food will be provided at the event. If you plan to attend and have any allergies - please email the address listed above to let us know before the event.
